This Association-level planning position is ideal for those interested in collaborating to create experiences that engage members through events, research, fundraising, and other opportunities.
The Poetry Slam Program Team leader is responsible for facilitating intercollegiate slams that supplement campus programs for the purpose of stimulating interest, participation, and quality of presentation in these activities for student learning.
Reporting to the Student Programs Team leader and being supported by the educational program manager, for a two-year term, the Poetry Slam Program Team leader is responsible for:
Initiating, promoting, and guiding intercollegiate slams and the planning of the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI) program.
Establishing standards and procedures for participation in ACUI produced slams.
Consulting and collaborating with the Central Office concerning the CUPSI budget, schedule, promotion, and overall event management.
Working on developing an event planning timetable, including event promotion, and maintaining effective communication regarding sponsorship opportunities.
Acting as the CUPSI Tournament Director at the annual event, including managing volunteer training, coaches meetings, slam family meetings, and scheduling for bouts.
Chairing the CUPSI Rules Committee & Protest Committee, working with an Advisory Committee, and communicating with volunteers to advance the success of the program.
Assisting in recruitment and coordination of educational workshops at CUPSI.
Coordinating planning related to finals performers, sacrificial poets, and pick-up teams at CUPSI.
Evaluating, assessing, and implementing improvements to the program.
Presenting program highlights during meetings with other student program team leaders.
Participating in smooth transitions from on program team to the next, including drafting a report of program results to the incoming program team leader.
At the time of application, individuals must have: employment at a higher education institution; institutional or individual membership; a signed institutional support form; and a commitment to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Association planning volunteer positions require a commitment of two years. While projects vary by season and role, over the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate approximately four hours of conference call and project work per month.
